EVENT DESCRIPTION

Celebrating 2 years of Dhaga and the launch of a new chapter.

We created Dhaga as a platform for South Asian Visual Artists / Designers and it has been heartwarming to grow together. Over the past two years we curated two sold out exhibitions (collectively featuring 46 artists) and many other amazing events. We started with just a handful of artists and now we have close to 2000 people with us including you! We are embarking on a new journey for 2025: striving to demystify the creative industry -starting with an in-depth conversation reflecting on the past two years of Dhaga and re-defining success with Rahemur Rahman & Sarith Ratnayake, Founder of Dhaga.

Rahemur Rahman is an Artist, Filmmaker and Fashion Designer known for his significant contributions to the British-Bengali diaspora, innovative use of traditional Bengali block printing techniques through his eponymous label and for his focus on sustainable and ethically produced garments. He is the first Bangladeshi fashion designer to showcase at LFW and have works acquired by the V&A. He is currently directing and producing a documentary following the journeys of four Hijras in South Asia titled ‘Body of Our Own’. Rahman is also the Joint First Year leader at CSM and Director of Training and Development at the British Bangladeshi Fashion Council.

COVID PRECAUTIONS:
Our team will be masked throughout the event, and we kindly ask all attendees to also wear masks and undergo testing beforehand. If you experience any symptoms, we urge you to stay at home, to rest and recover. The space will be ventilated, and attendees limited to 60 people.

ACCESSIBILITY (Info from ustwo – the venue)
The studio entrance currently has a few steps. We do have a wheelchair ramp available, though we acknowledge that it may not be ideal for all visitors.

An accessible toilet is available on-site.

We are committed to making our space as inclusive as possible and are continuously working towards improving accessibility. Should you have any further questions or specific requirements, please feel free to reach out.

ZERO TOLERANCE:
We have zero tolerance towards racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, any other prejudiced behaviours, any form of harassment, intimidation, harm, violence or abuse.

PRONOUNS:
We ask you to please not assume people’s pronouns (e.g. she/hers, they/them, he/him) and introduce yourself with yours to encourage others to do the same. Some people prefer not to use pronouns at all, using their name instead of a pronoun. The same applies for not assuming other characteristics including people’s sexuality.

PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING
Photography and filming will be taking place at the event for the purposes of marketing across Dhaga’s social channels. If you wish not be photographed/filmed please let us know in advance.
