As part of sondr’s launch, artist Kudii and curator Eddie Akin will be hosting a workshop titled “Thinking of the Art Market as an Art Piece”. The core focus of this workshop is learning how to breakdown artistic creation – conceptualisation, development, strategy and execution – to show attendees that the challenge of the art market as an art piece in itself, made up of small parts.
The workshop will be split into three sections: an introduction, panel talk/Q&A, and a practical workshop. Hosts Kudii and Eddie Akin will be joined by collaborators Aliyah Hasinah and Haja Fanta for the talk, which will centre on the positioning and curation of work and navigating the art market, such as understanding the right gallery, institutions, and artists. How can emerging artists synthesis their practice in a way that would ensure they understand it is a long term endeavour?
Following the talk, the practical workshop will ask our attendees to develop an art piece and think about the galleries, curators, and strategy they would undertake to communicate the work. Guidance and feedback will be lead by the workshop’s creative leaders.
Kudii is a Nigerian-born, London-based artist and designer whose multidisciplinary practice blends together psychology with a sculptural use of colour and form that is both contemporary and intrinsically African, representing his heritage and multiculturalism in modernity. Kudii challenges societal norms and infrastructures through his work, from a background in psychology and architecture to showing in a Louis Vuitton ‘Next Gen Visionaries’ exhibition and being profiled on Nowness.
Eddie Ade Akin is a London-based curator who works with artists and institutions, interweaving narratives from his personal life with post-colonial discourse. Eddie approaches curatorial practice with a multidisciplinary and pluralistic perspective, accompanied by a particular interest in cultural production through an exploration of the intersection of art, science, and the environment.
Aliyah Hasinah is a curator, writer and filmmaker whose work focuses on decolonial approaches to history and the present day. Clients she has consulted for include BBC, Southbank Centre, The Face magazine and the V&A.
Haja Fanta is a writer, curator and researcher originating from Sierra Leone. Now based in London, she has a particular interest in artistic and cultural production from Gambia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone and in building creative connections between those cultures and the broader diaspora.
Please note that due to limited capacity, we request that each individual sign up to only one of the workshops.
