This Home of Ours // Book Launch & Showcase

Shoreditch Arts Club invites you to the official book launch and showcase of photographer, Ayesha Kazim’s first photo book, “This Home of Ours.” This analog documentary series examines the ever-evolving landscape of Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap neighbourhood at the intersection of land, religion, and identity.

“This Home of Ours” acts as a contemporary time capsule of the neighbourhood’s rich history. Through this visual archive, the intent is to shift the focus from the theoretical, social issue of gentrification to the community members themselves, who have played an integral role in the preservation of Bo-Kaap’s history, traditions, and values. In exploring the cultural implications of displacement, “This Home of Ours” examines the way history permeates one’s landscape.

Works from the series will be on display, alongside copies available for purchase and signing. There will also be a special screening of interviews from “This Home of Ours.”
