Job Introduction

Contains Strong Language is a festival of poetry and performance which will take place this year in Bradford as part of the City of Culture Events.  This award-winning celebration of spoken word, page poetry and performance and the poets who create it, began in Hull in 2016. The festival has newly commissioned work at its heart which is performed for audiences in venues across the city and also broadcast on all the national as well as on local radio stations and streamed on digital platforms. The talent development scheme Words First as well as other continuing initiatives such as Radio Club form part of the pre-festival and legacy work.

Main Responsibilities

The role will include managing the lead up to the festival, in conjunction with the editor and an event producer, working closely with multiple partners from both within the BBC and externally, as well as being on location for the event itself to ensure it runs smoothly.  You will work closely with the editorial team and supervise junior members of the team, as well as volunteers for the event.  You will be responsible for preparing, managing and monitoring production budgets and reporting the financial position to the editor and production executive.  You will also need experience of interpreting editorial briefs and there is the opportunity to lead on the digital promotion and coverage of the festival and creatively input into this project.

Are you the right candidate?

You’ll need to have experience of planning and organising at single or multi-venue live events, along with a good working knowledge of all BBC safety procedures associated with publicly-attended festivals. You will have managed relationships with both external stakeholders and worked with multiple programme and technical teams at the same time. You’ll have proven ability to manage projects within a set budget, as well as a demonstrable experience of working with BBC systems, including SAP. The BBC Audio Events Producer will also give support managing this project.

For any queries, please contact either Sue Roberts, Executive Editor and Director of Contains Strong Language, or Victoria Caddens, Production Executive, England Regions, Wales and West.

About the BBC

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours here.

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual’s unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
