The Band: Sollos

Sollos is Universal Music’s leading audio-wellness venture. We combine music and audio from the world’s best artists with cutting edge research into cognitive science and psychoacoustics, to create music and soundscapes which have been specifically engineered to help people focus, relax and sleep.

We curate tracks from Universal Music’s world-class roster of artists, using a rigorous science-backed criteria to assess the audio’s suitability to support better focus, relaxation and sleep. Our in-house engineers then use a proprietary algorithm to add special sound waves: auditory beats or coloured noise. Scientific research has shown that these sound waves can help improve mood and enhance cognition. We call these additives ‘sound supplements’ — you may not even notice them, but they’re there to infuse our music with extra goodness.

We license our audio to some of the world’s biggest brands to improve the quality of life of millions of people by helping them to focus, relax and sleep better.

The A Side: Responsibilities

Reporting into the Sollos General Manager, we’re looking for someone to lead our audio production team: prioritising our repertoire selection, and managing and growing a team of producers and the workflow that enables them to create the world’s best audio for focus, relaxation and sleep. You’ll need to enjoy management and process design alongside the quest for audio excellence.

This is a hybrid position which will require the chosen candidate to be based in the office 2 days a week, with the potential to be flexible when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the Sollos Audio team, including prioritising tasks within the team’s workflow across technical, creative and quality control (QC) activities
  • Oversee sourcing and prioritise processing of suitable repertoire for Sollos, in collaboration with the Sollos General Manager and label A&R teams
  • Oversee creative direction and signing-off Sollos mixes subject to final approval from artist and label
  • Oversee selection of appropriate audio editing and management technologies to support Sollos workflows including DAWs, databases, storage and proprietary tools
  • Facilitate continuous improvement of Sollos audio processes across sourcing, assessment, production and QC including innovation and experimentation, process design, automation, documentation, onboarding, training etc
  • Coordinate feedback and data collection for the Sollos machine learning team to support continuous improvement of the Sollos algorithms
  • Support the cognitive science team by ensuring they have the audio assets required to run the Sollos Research Programme
  • Represent audio team to internal and external stakeholders
